SP78 - All-Star Game MVP

The Commissioner’s Trophy is awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the SP78 All-Star Game, as chosen by the SP78 commissioner. Awarded each All-Star Game since 1962, the trophy was originally called the Arch Ward Memorial Award; the award’s name was changed to the Commissioner’s Trophy in 1970.

The Gillette Award, sponsored by Gillette shaving products, is awarded to the player receiving the most votes overall during SP78 All-Star Game balloting, as selected by Statis Pro fans nationwide. Voting took place between 1988 and 2002: a total of 145 ballots were cast.

The Pentel Trophy, sponsored by Pentel pens and stationary products, is awarded to the player receiving the most write-in votes overall during SP78 All-Star Game balloting. Prior to 1978, Rico Carty of the Braves (1970) and Steve Garvey of the Dodgers (1974) were the only players to be elected to starting positions as write-in candidates.
