Indians pinch-hitters Larvell Blanks, Ted Cox, and Bo Diaz all singled in the ninth inning of Game 2 of the Cleveland-Texas doubleheader…

Also in the Indians-Rangers game, Texas outfielder Johnny Grubb collided with the left field wall while chasing a fly ball, injuring his wrist. Grubb is expected to be out of action for at least a week…

Catfish Hunter has been scratched as the starting pitcher for the second game of the Twins-Yankees series this weekend. A replacement pitcher has yet to be announced. Dave Goltz (5-0) is still scheduled to start for the Twins…

Pete Rose is seven hits away from the 3,000th of his career…

For the first time, a non-sports cable television network is carrying a baseball game. The May 2nd ‘Steve Ontiveros Day’ contest between the Cubs and Dodgers at Wrigley Field will be telecast nationally by C-SPAN. Play-by-play will be handled by Keith Jackson, Mel Allen, and Al Trautwig…

The San Francisco Giants became the first team in Statis Pro 1978 Replay history to score more than twenty runs in a game as they clobbered the Atlanta Braves 23-2 at Fulton County Stadium. The Giants pounded five Braves pitchers for 25 hits, also a Statis Pro record. John Montefusco won his third game of the year, while Jack Clark and Darrell Evans each hit their second HR…

AL – April 27

The Angels won their third in a row, defeating the Mariners in 15 innings by a score of 4-3. Don Baylor won it with a one-out, bases-loaded single off Seattle reliever Enrique Romo (0-1). Dave LaRoche earned the victory in relief of Paul Hartzell and Dyar Miller…At Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the Twins roughed up Oakland pitching for 15 hits and coasted to an 11-3 victory. Roger Erickson went the distance, earning his second win of the season. Steve Renko, making his first start, allowed seven runs in two innings and took the loss… Texas and Cleveland split a pair, with the Indians taking the first game 4-1 on the four-hit pitching of Rick Waits. Game 2, the replay of yesterday’s rain game, was won by the Rangers 3-2. Toby Harrah knocked in all three Rangers runs with a sixth inning homer…At Royals Stadium, the Royals erupted for six runs in the 2nd inning and coasted to an easy 9-1 win over the Blue Jays. Rich Gale (3-0) took the complete-game victory, while Dave Lemanczyk (1-3) suffered the loss. John Mayberry homered for the second day in a row in a losing cause…
