TWISP Notes #40

TWISP Notes
February 26, 1998

The Atlanta Braves called up pitcher Jim Bouton from their AAA farm team in Richmond on June 19th, to fill the roster spot left vacant by the injury to catcher Joe Nolan. Bouton, who hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 1970, when he was with the Astros, will make his comeback attempt on June 21st, when the Braves play the Padres at San Diego Stadium…

Through June 20th, Dodgers reliever Terry Forster has not allowed a run this season, a span of 40 innings. In 20 appearances, his record stands at 4-0, with seven saves and a 0.00 ERA…

In his first at-bat since coming off the 30-day disabled list, Bob Horner of the Braves cracked a pinch-hit home run off Padres reliever Dan Spillner to help Atlanta to a 5-1 win. It was Horner’s first plate appearance in 7½ years…

The Orioles sent outfielder Mike Anderson to AAA Rochester on June 19th and called up Al Bumbry to take his place, in hopes that his speed will help to improve the team’s dismal base stealing totals…

Milwaukee DH Larry Hisle’s current hitting streak has reached 11 games…

The Yankees and Twins lead their divisions in the American League, while the Phillies and Padres hold slim first-place leads in the NL, as of June 20th…

Craig Kusick of the Twins and Rick Miller of the Angels both returned from injuries this week; Miller joined his team in Minnesota, where the Angels meet the Twins for a quick two-game series, while Kusick was returned to AAA Toledo…

Twins first baseman Rod Carew is five hits shy of 2,000…

There have been 885 games played in the SP78 season, with 1,221 left to play to reach the postseason, and 230 left before the All-Star Game…

The National League has not had a game called or postponed due to rain since May 28th…

Fans! June 25th is Helmet Day at Candlestick Park! Good seats are still available for the Sunday doubleheader between the Giants and Braves, but if you can’t make the game, you can still catch all of the exciting action on KSFO 560 Radio, with Lon Simmons and Joe Angel calling the play-by-play…
