After the recent retirement of Dennis Martinez, only five players from the 1978 season are still playing in the major leagues today: Eddie Murray, Paul Molitor, Dennis Eckersley, Danny Darwin, and Rick Honeycutt. All began their careers in 1977 or 1978, except for Murray, whose first season was 1975…

Due to a recent wave of player injuries, several minor leaguers were called up to their parent clubs in the past week: the Mariners called up catcher Kevin Pasley, pitcher Oscar Zamora reported to Houston, the Giants added pitcher Ed Plank to their roster, Danny Goodwin has joined the Angels, and Kansas City brought up catcher Art Kusnyer…

Milwaukee’s Larry Hisle has hit in 17 straight games, currently the longest streak in the majors…

Three separate beanball incidents resulted in five player ejections during the June 18th Pirates-Braves game at Atlanta…

In a surprise move by the Commissioner’s office, infielder Kurt Bevacqua of the Texas Rangers was suspended June 19th for three days, for actions detrimental to the game of baseball. Officials from the AL office and the Rangers have declined to comment on the suspension…
