6/8/78      Chicago vs Minnesota      Metropolitan Stadium

Today’s game is the second of a two-game set…The White Sox had lost five in a row before topping the Twins 10-6 yesterday…Catcher Bill Nahorodny was placed on the 21-day disabled list May 29th. His replacement, Wayne Nordhagen, is hitting .292 over the last six games…The Twins lead the AL West with a 36-22 record and have been in first place every day this season but one…Rod Carew brings a 12-game hitting streak into today’s game…Twins outfielders Rich Chiles, Bombo Rivera, and Craig Kusick are all on the disabled list, with Rivera due to come off June 9th…

The first game of today’s doubleheader is the makeup game of an April 16th rainout…With the return of outfielder Ken Landreaux from the disabled list June 3rd, the Angels sent sub Tony Solaita to their AAA club in Salt Lake City…The Angels lead the season series 2-1…Don Baylor had a 3 HR game on May 17th…A’s first baseman Dave Revering is batting .522 for the month of June, with eight RBI…Game 1 will be the first start of the season for pitcher Mike Norris…Wayne Gross has made 19 errors at third in just 33 games this season…

The Royals have won 7 of their last 10 and have climbed to second place in the AL West, just three games behind the front-running Twins…Hal McRae has hit in 10 straight games…Johnny Grubb has also hit in 10 straight…The Rangers hold the SP78 record for home runs hit in a game with 5, set May 12th…Kansas City starter Rich Gale walked five consecutive batters over two innings in yesterday’s 5-4 loss to Texas…Outfielder Clint Hurdle’s pinch-hit HR June 2nd was KC’s first this season…The Rangers are only 5½ games out of first in the West…KC third baseman George Brett was April’s Player-of-the-Month…Since his return from the disabled list, shortstop Bert Campaneris is batting .333…
