NL – May 15

Pitchers Larry Christenson and Ron Reed combined to help Philadelphia to a 6-2 win over Houston at the Astrodome. Little Jimmy Sexton punched a home run for the Astros, his fourth…After St Louis scored four times in the eighth inning to take the lead, San Diego erupted for eight runs in the bottom half of the frame, coasting to a 9-5 victory. Padres hitters had seven singles in the decisive eighth…In ten innings, Pittsburgh defeated Los Angeles 7-4, thanks in part to an error, two walks, and an HBP in the extra frame. Kent Tekulve picked up the win…

AL – May 16

The Yankees bombarded Chisox pitchers with a 7-run second inning and rolled to an easy 9-2 drubbing at Comiskey Park. Reggie Jackson’s fourth HR, a grand slam, highlighted the New York outburst…A Jim Norris RBI single in the sixth lifted the Indians past the A’s 5-4 at Cleveland. Rick Wise notched his third win, and Rico Carty clubbed his eighth homer for Oakland in a losing cause…At Detroit, the magic Mariners won their 14th straight, an 8-1 pounding of the Tigers. Paul Mitchell (6-1) went the distance for Seattle, while Julio Cruz swiped his 30th, 31st, and 32nd bases to pace the Mariner offense…Texas blanked Milwaukee 4-0 at Arlington Stadium. Ferguson Jenkins (5-2) earned the complete-game victory…Minnesota kept pace with Seattle with an 11-3 win over Baltimore at the Met. Roy Smalley went 4-for-4 and Mike Cubbage had four RBI…A pair of 4-run innings helped Boston to an 8-3 victory over the Royals in Kansas City…California topped Toronto 5-2 at Exhibition Stadium. Bobby Grich and John Mayberry had HR’s in the game…
