Montreal swept a doubleheader at Cincinnati by scores of 3-2 and 7-0. Ellis Valentine won the first game with a two-out, 11th-inning single off loser Tom Hume…A Steve Garvey 2-run triple proved to be the deciding hit in a 4-3 Dodgers win over the Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium…The Cubs made it four straight over the Giants with a slim 2-1 victory at Wrigley Field. Rick Reuschel went the distance, evening his record at 3-3…The weary Phillies played their second 20-plus inning game of the year, a 21-frame marathon won by the visiting Mets 4-3. A triple by Elliott Maddox scored the game-winning run…Last-minute starter Tom Bruno’s three-hitter paced St Louis to a 5-0 win over San Diego…The Astros beat the Braves by scores of 9-8 and 4-3 in their twinbill at Atlanta. Bob Horner made the first game close with a grand slam in the last half of the ninth…

Andy Mora’s pinch-hit double with two out in the tenth lifted Baltimore to a chilling 9-8 victory over Minnesota…A 3-run eighth helped Seattle to its 8th-straight victory, a 6-5 trimming of the Blue Jays at the Kingdome. The streak is a franchise record…Detroit edged Oakland 3-2 on a Ron LeFlore 9th-inning double…John Wathan’s bases-loaded bloop single lifted visiting Kansas City to a 6-5 win over Milwaukee in 13 innings. Darrell Porter and Hal McRae slugged HR’s for the Royals…The White Sox defeated the Red Sox 5-3 in the replay of their May 5th rainout, but their regularly scheduled game was postponed after an 88-minute rain delay…At Anaheim, the Angels topped the slumping Indians 5-4… New York beat Texas 4-1…
