The Milwaukee Brewers called up outfielder Dave May from their minor league affiliate in Spokane to replace Gorman Thomas and Jim Wohlford, who both suffered injuries during their game at Fenway Park…

With shortstop Bert Campaneris on the 30-day DL, the Texas Rangers brought up shortstop Nelson Norman from their AAA club…

Indians catcher Ron Pruitt hit his first major league grand slam in the 9th inning of Game 2 of the Cleveland-Boston doubleheader on April 23rd…

Steve Ontiveros, who has been on the Cubs disabled list since April 8th,  was taken off on April 23rd. He will not return to action until May 2nd, when the Cubs will honor him at Wrigley Field. Replacement Mike Vail, who played eight games at third during the stretch, hit a mere .174 with no runs and no RBI, and to make room for Ontiveros, was returned to the minor leagues…

The three bench-clearing brawls that erupted during the Cardinals-Expos game on the 24th will be reviewed on film by the SP78 commissioner, who was present at Olympic Stadium during the action. “What happened on the field was pure insanity,” he stated after the Cards’ 5-3 win, “and the three fights didn’t help.” Some players may be fined…

At Baltimore, Pat Kelly’s 2-run homer backed the pitching of Scott McGregor and three relievers as the O’s topped New York 3-2…After the Angels scored five times in the 6th inning, Seattle came back with two in the 7th and two in the 9th for a thrilling 6-5 victory…At Comiskey Park, Rusty Staub homered and Jim Slaton earned his second win as Detroit beat Chicago 6-3…
